Alimak lifting Boliden’s Aitik copper mine expansion in Sweden

As we finish off the Nordic technology and mining features for IM November, news comes from technology provider Alimak Hek, which is carrying out work for Boliden’s Aitik copper mine expansion near Gällivare in northern Sweden. Alimak’s contract, which is part of the mining company’s SEK 6 billion investment, will provide seven rack and pinion-driven lifts for the operation. These will facilitate the maintenance and inspection of different applications such as crushing, grinding, flotation and de-watering. The first five lifts are in place and the following two will be installed at the two crushers in November.

The working environment in the mine creates high demands on the lifts durability and reliability. They accommodate lifting heights from 13.5 m to 48 m and payload capacities of 400 kg to 1,800 kg. The lifts are equipped with the modern ALC-II microprocessor-based control system, emergency phone, and overload sensing device.
