MINExpo® 2012 is a record-breaker

minexpo1.jpgMINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2012 will break all previous records for size. Exhibits showcasing the full range of mining products, services and technologies will occupy more than 850,000 ft2 of floor space. The show will fill all of North Hall, Central Hall, the outdoor Silver Lot, and for the first time ever, MINExpo will be in halls 3 and 4 of the South Building. More than 1,800 exhibitors will be at the show. Thirty-five countries will be represented and there will be nine international pavilions. See International Mining’s preview in the August issue. The Online Directory for MINExpo® will be up and running on August 1. The directory will have a listing for every exhibitor at the show. Visitors to the online directory can access an exhibitor by company name, product or country. The directory also will have a word search function. The directory will remain on the MINExpo website for one year.

The directory will indicate where on the show floor each exhibitor will be located. Of course, a printed version of the directory will be distributed at the show.

At MINExpo®, you want to spend your time as efficiently and productively as possible. The show’s Matchmaker Program makes that a lot easier to do.  During the show registration process, you can indicate those products and services you are most interested in seeing at the show. Then, a few weeks prior to the show, you will receive an email with a list of the exhibitors matching the products and services you checked when you registered. This list will include a link to the website of each listed exhibitor, allowing you to learn more about the companies and their products prior to the show so that you can use your time at the show more efficiently.

If you did not sign up for the Matchmaker Program when you registered, no problem. You can go back into your registration using the link provided in the electronic confirmation letter.

During MINExpo®, two very important awards luncheons will be held to recognise mining industry achievements in safety, reclamation, and sustainable development.

The Sentinels of Safety awards luncheon will be held on Tuesday, September 25, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center.  This event will honour the 2011 recipients of the coveted Sentinels of Safety Awards, presented each year to mining operations throughout the country that have demonstrated exemplary safety records.

In addition, the first recipients of the Technology Innovations in Mine Safety and Health award will be recognised. This new award is sponsored by the Office of Mine Safety and Health of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The following day-Wednesday, September 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.-the U.S. Department of Interior’s Office of Surface Mining (OSM) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will present awards for excellence in environmental management.

OSM’s Excellence in Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Awards will be presented to coal mining companies that achieve the most exemplary reclamation in the country, while the BLM Reclamation and Sustainable Development Awards recognize the efforts made by mining companies in implementing the principles of sustainable development.
