New book on MSHA by Former Assistant Secretary David Zegeer

Inside MSHA: The Formative Years of the Mine Safety and Health Administration, a recently released book by the late David Zegeer, chronicles the history of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) from 1983-1987 when Zegeer was head of the agency. Part memoir, part history and part commentary on the industry he loved, Inside MSHA is dedicated to US miners who have shaped that country.

Zegeer, who passed away in 2012, began his career in Kentucky with the Consolidation Coal Co and Beth Elkhorn Corp and was an expert on mine explosions and their prevention. It would be good to see a nomination for him into the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame – Safety category.

All proceeds of the book will benefit the David A. Zegeer Mine Health & Safety Scholarship at the University of Kentucky, Department of Mining Engineering. Copies may be purchased at davezeeger.com.
