First metallurgy inductees into the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame

The development team for Outotec’s Modular SX-plant, VSF®X, will be inducted into the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame, in cooperation with Stantec, at a gala dinner, supported by the SME and CMA, (www.im-halloffame.com) on Monday February 16, 2015 in Denver during the SME annual meeting. It was developed through internal product development involving the following key personnel, responsible for the idea, concept and product development as well as technology commercialisation of modular plant:

Rami Saario – Senior Product Manager

Saario has over decade long experience in designing and implementing solvent extraction plant around the world. He was the inventor of the initial idea, which was infused during the years when he was solving various problems related to designing and delivering SX plants. He was in charge of development project and is currently a Product Manager VSF®X Plant.

Dr Jussi Vaarno – Vice President, Flotation

Vaarno possesses and doctoral degree in fluid mechanics and was an irreplaceable aid in the idea and concept development phase. His profound experience was also valuable in evaluating the commercial and financial aspects of new product. Currently Dr Vaarno is responsible for Outotec’s whole flotation offering where modular thinking shall be further develop.

Henri Fredriksson – Product Manager

Fredriksson has over 10 years experience in designing process equipment. Especially he has profound understanding in the mechanical aspects of process equipment and gave valuable know-how from the very beginning of the project by further refining the concept to meet the mechanical requirements. He is currently product manager of process equipment related to VSF®X plant.

Jussi Pajala – Engineering Manager

Pajala also possesses decade long experience in designing and implementing SX and other hydrometallurgical projects. Through his deep understanding of various engineering constraints in implementation projects, he was one responsible for the concept idea and valuable support through the whole project. He is currently working as engineering manager and leading the engineering phase of first implementation project.

Juri Matinheikki – Diploma Student

Matinheikki has an education in mechanical engineering and industrial management. He gave valuable insights especially in the commercialization phase of the development project by applying modern marketing methods to new product and evaluating and stating the capital expense benefits of new modular plant. Currently he is conducting a thesis related to hydrometallurgical plant proposal management.
