Flinders Resources has announced an update on the Woxna project and the official opening ceremony that was held on site on October 17, 2014. The opening ceremony was attended by over 90 people including local stakeholders, graphite consumers, industry commentators and Flinders staff.  The ribbon to officially start the plant was cut by Yoomi Renström, the mayor of nearby Edsbyn. Also in attendance was a representative from the Consulate of Canada in Sweden.

Customers, contractors, suppliers, regulators and the community were able to share a meal, tour the facility, and watch graphite in production. This ceremony marks the official start of the facility which has been operating since July.  The plant is now ramping up to produce to a number of graphite specifications tailored to customer requirements.

Blair Way, President & CEO: “We were pleased with the large turnout to celebrate the successful restart of production.  The weather was amazing and all attendees had an up close and personal visit with the plant and management at the Woxna facility.  It was a great day for Flinders to showcase the efforts of the past 12 months, and I congratulate all staff and contractors for the safe and successful delivery of the project.”

Goldcorp has produced first gold from its $1.8-billion Eleonore mine, located in the James Bay region of Northern Quebec. The company’s President and Chief Executive Officer Chuck Jeannes, said that during its development stage the project created 2,000 jobs, from which about 900 will be maintained as the mine moves towards full production. Outtput for this year is expected to be between 40,000 and 60,000 oz of gold, reaching 7,000 t a day by 2018.

Stellar Diamonds, the diamond development company focused on West Africa, has announced that first diamonds have been recovered from the commissioning of the mine plant at the Baoulé kimberlite pipe in Guinea.

Stellar Diamonds Chief Executive Karl Smithson commented from the Baoulé project: “I am delighted to be on site to witness the first recovery of diamonds from our Baoulé pipe which is a key milestone for Stellar.  Our team has done an excellent job to get the project up and running in a short space of time and under challenging conditions during the rainy season. Our next objective is to optimise the commissioning of the plant before increasing the volume throughput of kimberlite ore, which could take a few weeks further.  Whilst this large scale bulk sampling, or trial mining, is expected to establish the diamond grade and value of the kimberlite pipe to a high degree of confidence, it is also expected to provide cash flow to the company over the next twelve months.”

Australia Minerals and Mining Group has announced that based on it’s strategy to become a high purity alumina (HPA) producer, the company is proposing a change of name to Altech Chemical Limited. The proposed name change will be subject to shareholder approval at its upcoming Annual General Meeting in November 2014.

Managing Director,  Iggy Tan said that a re-positioning and re-branding of the company is required to position itself as an identifiable quality producer of specialty chemicals in the world market place (See  and 2). “Our business is changing from being an explorer to a producer, but more importantly a high purity specialty chemicals producer. We need a name and brand that reflects a chemical processing company using proven technology to create a high margin product to meet the growing global demand for the next generation of telecommunication lifestyle products”
