Record order for Holman Wilfley delivered to Namakwa Sands

Holman Wilfley has announced one of its largest single product order deliveries to date, providing 21 double deck Holman 8000 tables to the Tronox Namakwa Sands Project in South Africa, through agents Minerals Technologies South Africa (Pty) Ltd. Holman Wilfley is now one of the largest suppliers of gravity separation tables to the global mineral sands industry and its tables are used by many of the major producers including Tronox, Iluka, Kenmare and Trimex. The company states: “This order reaffirms the trust in the quality and value that the industry places in Holman Wilfley products and we look forward to working closely with the Namakwa team.”

The Namakwa Sands open-pit mine and concentration plants are situated at Brand-se-Baai, 385 km north of Cape Town.  Here the ore is mined and processed at the primary concentration plants to produce a mineral concentrate. It undergoes further processing at the secondary concentration plant to yield a magnetic and non-magnetic stream. These concentrates are transported 60 km to the mineral separation plant where the minerals in the streams are separated to produce zircon, rutile and ilmenite. Rail cars are used to transport the products 270 km to the smelter at Saldanha Bay where the ilmenite is processed in furnaces to produce titanium dioxide slag and pig iron. The zircon and rutile is stored on site for export.
