Dana’s new drivetrain solutions for mining

At MINExpo in Las Vegas this week, Dana Incorporated made a number of announcements about their efficient drivetrain solutions for load haul dumpers and underground mining trucks. These technologies include the new Spicer® 20D planetary rigid non-steering axle, which delivers 25 to 40% more load capacity over previous models and is designed for mid-sized mining vehicles.

In addition, the new long-drop version of the Spicer TE14 hydrodynamic transmission now has improved shifting along with more precise manoeuvering and simpler maintenance. It has been paired with the new remote-mounted Spicer C3000 torque converter, which has been updated with additional capacity to maximise the performance of larger engines and pumps in high-energy duty cycles.

Dana also upgraded drivetrain solutions for small-sized underground mining vehicles with the new Spicer 182 and Spicer 183 planetary rigid non-steering axles. These axles offer an enhanced braking system for controlled operating conditions on uneven surfaces, along with improved performance and better mechanical efficiency.

Dana also announced a new optional package featuring Spicer® Smart Suite™ technology for the mining industry as well. This integrated system of connected-vehicle features turns passive drivetrain components into active sources of intelligence to improve the efficiency and precision of load transfers, among other benefits.
