Second Multitec 9000 for exploration at Kamoa Copper

Following the success of its first Dando International Multitec 9000 for wireline coring copper exploration in the DRC in 2015, Kamoa Copper has added another to the fleet. Due to the long distances between drill sites, the latest Multitec 9000 is truck mounted on an Iveco Eurocargo 4×4.

A high-performance 1,100rpm rotary head provides sufficient speed and torque for wireline coring in P, H and N sizes with samples retrieved to 550 m in depth. A 3.6 m stroke allows loading of 3 m wireline rods, while a mast extension expedites tripping out two rods at a time on the winch. Double-acting hydraulic break out clamps ensure quick and safe making and breaking of joints and power to the system is provided by a C4.4 Caterpillar engine.

Independently ranked as the world’s largest, undeveloped, high-grade copper discovery by international mining consultant Wood Mackenzie, the impressive Kamoa Kakula project will ensure both Kamoa Copper Multitec 9000 rigs will be working round the clock, confident in the performance, reliability and support they receive from Dando Drilling International.
