The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) is hosting a second event at the CIM 2013 convention in Toronto, a forum on Ventilation On Demand (VOD). Please send your RSVP to Courtney Folz [email protected]. CEMI is hosting an information and discussion forum on VOD. This no cost session is open to ventilation practitioners interested in advancing the adoption of VOD at their mines. It will be held Monday May 6, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, North Building, Room 201C, 2:00 – 5:00 PM and will include a presentation of findings, an introduction of VOD performance metrics and a round table discussion to determine industry priorities for faster and more effective adoption of VOD.
The information and discussion forum will present the summary findings from CEMI’s 18 month CAF-VOD study sponsored by Vale, Xstrata Nickel, CANMET and Industry Canada. The study investigated two VOD system installations with the objective of quantifying the business case for VOD while collecting scientifically valid field data to assess the effects of VOD on the workplace. A significant CAF-VOD finding identified the potential for increased productive capacity that VOD provides in existing mines, improving the payback that can be realized from energy savings alone.
CEMI is developing a collaborative program to pursue the next phase of VOD investigative work. The program will be focusing on determining and further quantifying the benefits that VOD can provide to improve ventilation effectiveness, energy intensity, design best practices and improved production capacity. VOD provides a potential paradigm shift affecting design and operation of our future mines.
