The 9th International Comminution Symposium, or Comminution 2014, organised by MEI in consultation with Professor Malcolm Powell and Dr Aubrey Mainza, is on track to be the biggest event yet in the series. With seven months still to go before the start of the event in Cape Town, over 75% of the exhibition space has already sold out. Booths have been taken up by companies including Metso, Russell Mineral Equipment, Keromos, and Outotec. There has also been a great deal of interest shown in sponsoring the 2014 event, with a total of 22 sponsors so far.
MEI’s Comminution conferences are established as key events for profiling cutting edge research and innovation in all aspects of crushing, grinding and ultrafine grinding in the minerals industry. Industrially based research papers showing the benefits of basing practical application on scientific rigour, such as the industrial validation of models and control techniques, are strongly encouraged. Draft papers will be published as an unrefereed proceedings on a USB memory stick, and selected papers will be published, after peer-review, in a special Comminution issue of Minerals Engineering journal. Professor Tim Napier-Munn from JKMRC/JKTech will present the first keynote talk entitled “Is progress in energy-efficient comminution doomed?” while Alan Muir, Vice President Metallurgy at AngloGold Ashanti in South
Africa, will present the second keynote entitled “The next stage of evolution in comminution”.
