New Mining Division VP and General Manager for Komatsu

Komatsu America Corp has announced that Dan Funcannon has been appointed Vice President and General Manager of the company’s Mining Division. Funcannon replaces Erik Wilde, who accepted a position with another company. In this role, Funcannon is responsible for the sales and support of Komatsu mining products in North America, as well as Komatsu’s 200 ton and larger mining trucks globally. The appointment coincides with the launch of the new 980E-4 truck.

“I’m looking forward to showing our customers how a trusted partner like Komatsu can add value with services and solutions that help their operations succeed, “ said Funcannon. “This mining environment is no time to retreat and hope the storm passes. Komatsu will press forward with leading technologies like autonomous trucks and innovative mine optimization tools that can help our customers be more efficient now and prepare them for the future,” Funcannon said.

Funcannon joined Komatsu in 1994 as a design engineer and has held roles of increasing responsibility within the research and development organisation. Most recently, he was Director of Engineering, responsible for all engineering activities for large mining trucks. Funcannon also oversaw new-product research and development projects, including new AC drive haul trucks, autonomous technology adoption into large mining trucks, and innovations to mining trucks that improve safety, quality, reliability and productivity.

Funcannon is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress Executive Council and the Bradley University Executive Advisory Committee for the Dean of Engineering. He received his BSME from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
