Remembering Modular Mining pioneer Dr James White

Dr James White, Modular Mining Systems Co-Founder, Chairman Emeritus, and pioneer in fleet management, sadly passed away on January 8, 2017, in Tucson, Arizona.

Dr White co-founded Modular Mining Systems in 1979, with the groundbreaking DISPATCH Fleet Management system, forever changing the way mines operate in real time. Under his guidance, Modular has grown from three employees to over 700, with offices in 10 countries and deployments at over 250 sites, worldwide. After a long and successful tenure at Modular, Dr White retired in June of last year. His innovative vision has been a key element in Modular’s success and a driving force that will continue to move the company forward.

In 2012, Dr White received the Komatsu Presidential Award, recognising his vision, leadership, and intrinsic understanding of the needs of the mining industry. He was inducted into the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame in 2015.
