BELAZ successfully tests 60 t mining truck with Volvo Penta Stage V engine

A 60 t BELAZ mining truck equipped with an engine compliant with Stage V European emissions regulations has been tested in Poland. In February, Polmark Kielce, the official representative of BELAZ in the country, together with experts from Volvo Penta in Sweden in close cooperation with ERS Engineering Corp (USA) and Western Technologies (service dealer of Volvo Penta in Belarus) successfully implemented the project for modification of a BELAZ-7555I dump truck.

An advanced 16-litreĀ  TWD1683VE Volvo Penta engine of almost 800 hp (585 kW) compliant with the Stage V European ecological standard was installed on the truck. BELAZ states: “Stage V standards which have been introduced in European countries since last year are much stricter than the current European environmental regulations and are intended to restrict the emission of harmful substances and protect the environment for future generations. The new ecological standard for off-road vehicles stipulates the limit for the volume of soot particles in exhaust gases. It implies mandatory use of highly efficient technologies for filtration of hard particles including active regeneration filters.”

The trials during which the BELAZ truck equipped with the environmentally friendly engine demonstrated excellent efficiency, power, cost effectiveness and reliability were held in Poland in a limestone mine operated by Ozarow Group, a major European producer of aggregates and cement and part of CRH.

BELAZ concludes: “The BELAZ-7555I dump truck equipped with this engine is a good opening and a highly-demanded product for European and global customers. Even today Ozarow Group’s management is considering the procurement of one more BELAZ-7555I dump truck with a Volvo Penta engine in 2020.”
