M&R’s RUC Cementation gets major shaft lining & equipping plus headframe contract for Newmont Tanami Expansion 2

Murray & Roberts has announced that RUC Cementation Mining Contractors has been awarded an approximate ZAR2.3 billion (US$162 million) contract for the shaft lining and equipping plus headframe construction at Newmont Corporation’s Tanami Expansion 2 project in Australia’s Northern Territory. The company stated: “RUC is a diversified underground mining contractor with an extensive portfolio of completed and current projects throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific and is excited to engage on this project with Newmont, the world’s largest gold producer.”

The statement added: “Capital investment in the mining sector continues mainly in brownfield expansions, although it is expected that investment in new mines will return from mid-2021 onwards. The Group’s Mining platform holds a leading position in most major regional underground mining markets in the western world and is well positioned to benefit from the expected improvement in market conditions.”

RUC Mining Managing Director Barry Upton stated that this significant contract will underpin the Australian contracting operations of RUC Mining for the next two years and will add significant value to the RUC Mining order book. “This contract has been a long time in the bidding and negotiating phase and we are extremely pleased to have reached this latest milestone in the development of the haulage shaft for Newmont Australia at their iconic Newmont Tanami operation in the Northern Territory of Australia. The efforts of our staff and the Worley and Newmont staff throughout the negotiation phase has been a credit to all involved and we look forward to continuing an already strong relationship into the execution phase” he said.
