New agreement sees Booyco CXS become Wenco’s Level 9 open pit collision prevention solution

Further extending its global reach, Booyco has entered into an agreement with Wenco International Mining Systems where the Booyco CXS will become their Level 9 open pit CXS solution. The development comes after both companies were selected by Gold Fields Salares Norte mine after an extensive evaluation process; Booyco for CAS and Wenco for its Fleet Management System. Booyco CEO, Anton Lourens, told IM he is excited about the opportunity presented through the collaboration with Wenco, particularly as the company is invested in surface mining vehicles and operations, and their insight will add value to both companies’ customers.

“Delivering interoperable, best of breed solutions is consistent with our ‘buy, build partner’ strategy. We conducted a thorough search of available CAS systems to partner with and determined Booyco as a best of breed technology provider in this space, hence we are very pleased to be able to offer Booyco’s technology to our customers” explained Andrew Pyne, President and CEO of Wenco. “We determined that in addition to meeting the current customer requirements, Booyco is well advanced on delivering a Level 9 capability in open pit environments. We believe this will become a requirement of many of our customers soon. This technology also augments and supports our Open Autonomy initiatives. Booyco has already been offering an open pit solution since 2010 and has focused primarily to date in Southern Africa. Given our global footprint in open pit mining and philosophy of customer-focused open innovation that Booyco also supports, both companies understood that this partnership was a natural fit.”

Lourens states: “Our R&D focuses on continuously leveraging digital technologies to make mines safer and more efficient. A good example is our Booyco CXS range which is based on various available technologies and world class automotive standards. Recognised worldwide as a comprehensive and highly scalable integrated solution, our Booyco CXS is not just a warning system but a collision prevention system. Responding to EMESRT’s Level 7, Level 8 and Level 9 safety gradings, the Booyco CXS has improved hardware and architecture that allows for local software updates – providing increased functionality and flexibility.”

Booyco’s ground-breaking RF-based CWS900 system appeared as far back as 2010, when significantly it was already implemented as a Level 9 hybrid and actually stopping underground diesel equipment in the event of danger. “This was an important industry first and opened the door to enhancing ‘collision avoidance’ systems. It was also a breakthrough in terms of our ability as far back as 2010 to begin meeting the Level 9 requirements of best practice as formulated by the global Earth Moving Equipment Safety Round Table (EMESRT). Since then we have deployed some Level 9 solutions to more than 15 of our customer sites, from mining operations to plants, and distribution centres.”
