Xerotech teams up with Innolith to develop ‘industry first’ battery pack

Xerotech, a leader in battery pack technology for heavy-duty non-road mobile machinery, says it is joining forces with new battery cell technology developer Innolith to launch what it claims is the industry’s first battery packs for electrification of a wide range of applications where fire safety is paramount.

The collaboration will focus on the integration of Innolith’s I-State high energy density, safe and low temperature tolerance cell to Xerotech’s current generation Hibernium battery pack platform. The new Hibernium battery pack option will be based on Innolith’s innovative I-State technology, which uses a proprietary electrolyte that is completely non-flammable, even when exposed to extreme temperatures or high levels of stress, according to the company.

“We are thrilled to be working with Innolith to bring this groundbreaking technology to market,” Dr Barry Flannery, CEO of Xerotech, said. “Our Hibernium battery pack platform continuously evolves and expands, staying ahead of the market in terms of performance, safety and functionality. Being able to bring battery cell innovations to the market quickly, we are pushing the boundaries of industrial and commercial electrification.”

Innolith’s I-State battery cells are expected to be appealing to ATEX, eVTOL and industrial sectors, where safety and performance are of the utmost importance, Xerotech says. The I-State battery cell’s high energy density, tolerance of extreme hot and cold temperatures and high safety make it ideal for use in challenging environments. It has the potential to revolutionise the way these industries use batteries, providing a significantly more reliable source of power, it added.

Konstantin Solodovnikov, CEO of Innolith, said: “Batteries are set to run the world and operate in the most challenging environments where exceptional performance is paramount, and any risk of fire would be unacceptable. Many of these applications are crucial for the electrification of all kinds of mobility, including aviation for which conventional battery technology is unsuited. Innolith’s partnership with Xerotech will accelerate the adoption of I-State battery technology in these critical applications and make electrification available to even larger number of end-users.”

The I-State cell uses an entirely new battery cell technology based on an innovative inorganic electrolyte that can operate at far higher voltages than traditional Li-ion battery cells delivering high energy density and fire safety benefits and enabling a wide temperature operating range from -40°C to +60°C,

Xerotech plans to start offering battery packs with Innolith I-State battery cells in the coming months, with commercial availability expected in the next year. The companies say they are confident this partnership will be the start of a long and successful collaboration, bringing innovative energy solutions to customers around the world.

Xerotech and IMK to help electrify OEM mining fleets

Xerotech, a supplier of configurable battery systems, and IMK, an engineering firm that focuses on complete vehicle design, engineering and prototype builds, are to enter into a strategic partnership to help OEMs electrify their fleets.

This new partnership leverages the respective strengths of Xerotech and IMK to create a compelling offering to OEMs who are facing mounting pressure to reduce emissions and adopt electric vehicles. Xerotech’s Hibernium® platform batteries complement IMK’s vehicle design, engineering and prototyping expertise, and enables the new wave of low-volume electrification, the partners say.

The strategic agreement is the next step in the relationship between both companies, with joint projects for construction and mining OEMs already underway.

“The collaboration with Xerotech gives us the opportunity to offer our expertise and capabilities in prototype development and manufacturing to a wider range of OEMs willing to electrify their fleets,” Frank Herrmann, Managing Director at IMK, said.

Thomas Tomaszewski, VP of Business Development at Xerotech, added: “Xerotech’ Hibernium platform removes the electrification barrier of system component availability, but it is partners like IMK Engineering that are essential for design and development of new generation machinery. We are proud to work with Mr. Herrmann’s team and deliver the best-in-class solutions to the end customers.”

Xerotech boosts off-road integrated battery system offering with help of Meta System

Battery pack manufacturer Xerotech has formed a partnership with automotive electronic systems supplier Meta System to help expand its offering and provide integrated battery systems to the non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) market.

The NRMM is widely being recognised as the next frontier of electrification, Ireland-based Xerotech says, with industrial OEMs regularly announcing new, fully-electric equipment for heavy duty off-road applications.

“A major barrier to electrification for OEMs in these low-volume high-diversity markets is lack of access to high-quality, automotive-grade components which are normally only available in high volume orders,” Xerotech said. “Xerotech are already actively engaged in many of these first-of-a-kind NRMM electrification projects through the supply of its new Hibernium™ battery platform.”

This strategic partnership with Meta System – which counts BMW Group, Porsche and Daimler Truck as clients – to supply leading-edge automotive-grade on-board chargers (OBCs) and DC-DC converters further supports Xerotech’s strategy of eliminating NRMM electrification challenges, it said. The new offering will bring 400 V and 800 V OBCs in 11 kW and 22 kW with integrated off-board fast-charge control to the market in low volumes along with a selection of 12 V and 24 V bi-directional and uni-directional DC-DC converters, out-of-the-box integrated with Hibernium™ battery packs, Xerotech said.

Matteo Attolini, KAM E-Mobility Business Unit at Meta System, said: “We have identified the off-highway market as a very interesting growth opportunity outside of our core automotive business. Our partnership with Xerotech aligns well with our goals and their flexible battery architecture and systems-engineering approach eliminates many of the traditional concerns for engaging with low-volume customers. We are very excited for the future of this market.”

Barry Flannery, Founder and CEO at Xerotech, added: “Our strategic partnership with Meta System is a game changer. This is the first time that true automotive-grade power electronics are being made available to low-volume OEMs. There are no solutions in this market remotely close to the cost and quality of Meta System’s product portfolio.”
