At Intermat 2012, Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment is launching new crawler excavators, wheel loaders and ADTs that is says are specially designed for Middle East and African markets. As an example, the flexible and agile undercarriages on the DA40 and DA30, which are designed to ensure that all six wheels are in permanent contact with the ground, mean that Doosan trucks can operate on very rough and soft terrain in mass excavation hauling as well as in mining and quarrying applications. ADTs are widely used in small to mid-sized African mines due to their versatility.
Replacing the previous SOLAR models, the new Doosan crawler excavators offer a state-of-the-art design, combining high robustness with a number of important new functionalities and technical improvements, including the latest Tier 2 engines, new cabs and top quality materials and components, all “particularly suited to the specific needs of the Middle East and African markets.” A new range of Doosan wheel loaders for markets in the Middle East and Africa region builds on the design of the previous Mega range, offering several improvements for better performance, greater operator comfort, easier handling and serviceability, as well as increased durability. The new DA40 and DA30 Tier 2 ADTs incorporate over 40 years of expertise in the ADT market and using quality components from world-class suppliers such as Scania, ZF, NAF, Parker and Rexroth, the new Doosan ADTs are optimised for extreme off-road performance.
The operating weight of the new DX225LCA excavator varies from 21.5 to 23.2 t, depending on the configuration. The new model offers a maximum bucket capacity from 0.39 to 1.28 m3, a digging depth of 6,620 mm, a reach of 9,900 mm and a digging height of 9,750 mm. The DX225LCA is equipped with an air to air intercooler 6-cylinder Doosan DB58TIS Tier 2 compliant engine, developing 110 kW of power at 1,900 rpm. The DX225LCA also provides bucket and dipper stick breakout forces of 15.2 t and 12.6 t. Selected via the new LCD colour display panel in the cab, there are three operating modes for the new DX225LCA excavator: Power, Standard and the Economy mode, offering a significant reduction in fuel consumption. In combination with these work modes (P/S/E), the new EPOS controller “ensures a perfect interface and adjustment between the engine and hydraulic output that optimises productivity and significantly reduces fuel consumption by 5 to 15% depending upon the mode selected.”
Powered by the 6-cylinder Scania DC13 Tier 2 diesel engine with a gross power output of 368 kW at 2,100 rpm, the new DA40 offers a 10% increase in engine power compared to the previous MT41 model. With a 22% increase in gross torque to 2373 Nm at 1,300 rpm, the torque available in the DA40 is ‘best in class’ in the ADT market, says Doosan. Contributing to the overall 8% reduction in fuel consumption is the new ZF transmission offering 8 forward and 4 reverse speeds. The new transmission improves the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels for “outstanding traction.” To withstand the increased power, the driveline dimensions and cooling capacity of the truck have been increased.
