Fighting rust on mining machines with new coatings approach

rs.jpgLidingo, Sweden-based Introteknik AB is a leading manufacturer of anticorrosive paint for the maintenance of steel and iron structures. This year the company is launching a new rust penetrating hybrid protection system for heavy service use such as on mining machinery. The highly penetrating Isotrol Primer together with two component epoxy mastic top-coat Isomastic forms the new hybrid wear resistant coating.

The key to cost effective maintenance protection is the penetrating property of the primer which enables a durable rust protection system to be applied on rusty surfaces. Maintenance can be carried out in minimal time enabling a short shut down time for the mine or production plant. Maintenance can also be executed on site rather than through disassembling and relocating the object to a paint and blasting shop. This helps to minimise the long term cost of maintenance.

The new hybrid system has been tested over a period of five years by Swerea – KIMAB. The result was that the mechanical strength is above the 4 MPa minimum standard requirements of an epoxy paint systems. Another new product has also been released from Introteknik. A unique polyurethane that can build a 5,000 micron coat in one single application with a hardening time less than five minutes.
