Leica Geosystems’ Spatial Solutions Division, which includes HDSTM terrestrial laser scanning products, has selected Maptek to supply a long range laser scanner and associated mine scanning software to be sold under the Leica Geosystems brand. The global OEM supply agreement with Maptek that will facilitate the supply of Maptek’s I-Site products to Leica Geosystems. Maptek develops and markets I-Site 3D laser scanning hardware and software, as well as Vulcan 3D mine planning software, and the MineSuite interactive, mine production monitoring system.
Leica reports that the partnership follows many months of competitive evaluation and negotiation. Technical demonstrations by Maptek in Leica Geosystems’ Heerbrugg, Switzerland headquarters were followed by a comprehensive qualification of Maptek’s manufacturing facility in Adelaide, South Australia.
Jürgen Dold, President of Leica Geosystems Geospatial Solutions Division, says: “Our industry-leading HDS laser scanners and software already effectively address short- and mid-range, high-accuracy as-built and topographic survey applications. This agreement with Maptek adds complementary, long-range scanning hardware and mining-specific software solutions for easier, faster and more accurate mine quantity surveys and mine mapping. The Maptek partnership promises to be especially beneficial in certain geographic regions. The first long range scanners were delivered to Leica in January 2009 for marketing into the Russian, Eastern Bloc and Asian markets. The OEM Supply Agreement is based on current products and may also be extended to next generation products. ”
“Maptek’s high-performance I-Site 4400 Laser Scanning Systems, Studio Software package, and internal support organization, combined with Leica Geosystems’ global distribution network and leadership position in the overall laser scanning industry, forms a winning partnership,” explained Maptek CEO, Barry Henderson. “The agreement represents a major step forward for Maptek commercially. Maptek can focus on vital I-Site R&D projects and delivering quality products as the I-Site team continues to evolve and enhance the products. The alliance serves to underpin the significant investment in Maptek’s manufacturing infrastructure and capabilities.”
Maptek’s Vulcan, one of the world’s dominant 3D mine planning and modelling packages, has more than 3,500 licences in use. I-Site is an easy-to-use software and hardware system for mine survey, face mapping and stockpile calculations, while MineSuite targets production monitoring and fleet management applications.
Leica Geosystems says it “is best known for its broad array of products that capture accurately, model quickly, analyze easily, and visualise and present spatial information.Leica Geosystems is part of the Hexagon Group, Sweden.
