Mine services company Sedgman wins Queensland Minerals and Energy Export Award

sedgman.jpgSedgman has won the 2011 Premier of Queensland Export Award in the Minerals and Energy category. This follows on from 2010 wins at both Queensland and National export awards, in the Large Services category. Now Sedgman will represent Queensland in the Minerals and Energy category at the 2011 Australian Export Awards in December.

Leading resource sector services company Sedgman has won back-to-back Premier of Queensland Export Awards. Presenting the award, Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for State Development and Trade, Andrew Fraser, said this year’s honour roll represented the best of the best in Queensland exporting. “Companies from right across Queensland were on show – celebrating exporting successes against a backdrop of ongoing global economic uncertainty and last summer’s natural disasters.”

Sedgman has endured the challenges of flooding and cyclones at the coal sites it operates in the Bowen Basin, but has still managed to meet its targets both locally and globally.

Sedgman Managing Director Nick Jukes said the win reflected the great effort by all Sedgman employees to create opportunities in the global mining sector that benefit clients, shareholders and the wider Queensland community.

“It is an honour to win this award for the second time, and I believe it’s testament to our continued growth and success in international markets.”

In the past year Sedgman has opened two new international offices in Shanghai and Mongolia, adding to its existing offices in Beijing, Santiago and Johannesburg. The company won contracts in Mongolia, Colombia, and Botswana, and staff numbers grew by 30% globally to reach 1,000.

Jukes said, “Sedgman is positioned strongly in the coming year to deliver a range of projects and continue its excellence in contract operations both within Australia and abroad.”
