There are less than three weeks to go for nominations – www.im-halloffame.com. Nominations will be shortlisted after August 31 and sent to the panel of judges around the world. Remember your nomination needs to explain who the person(s) is, what they achieved/invented/developed and the impact this had on operations. Recent nominations include Klaus Schonert for the development of High Pressure Grinding Rolls and also in the Comminution category, Steve Morrell.  In Environmental Management and Stewardship, we have Dr John Groom, who did so much for the ICMM, and more; and in Metallurgy, the development team from Outotec’s Modular SX-plant, VSF®X. Alberto Benavides de la Quintana, founding President of Cía de Minas Buenaventura is a recent nomination for Outstanding Innovator. He is considered to be one of the leading mining and business innovators in the recent history of Peru. Andrew Jessett, Founder and CEO of MineWare independently created and commercialised the world’s most advanced dragline monitoring system. Mark Cooper, Sr. Director of Specialty Excavation at Vermeer has been nominated for the Terrain Leveler in surface mining, the Rocmec team for the development of thermal rock fragmentation and a Normet Group team for the development of sprayed concrete (wet shotcrete) for underground mining.

The GFS-Corp team is nominated for developing the EVO Natural Gas system that is allowing mine trucks to operate on a combination percentage  of diesel fuel, and natural gas. The savings are 35% – 40% on the cost of diesel fuel for the mines.

Dr Wolfgang Baum is also nominated – a world recognised process mineralogist with over 40 years of industrial experience in the mining industry.  He is currently director of the Ore Characterization and Process Mineralogy Laboratory at the FLSmidth Minerals Research Test Center in Salt Lake City.
