Russian Caterpillar dealer invests in simulation to deliver operator training

A technology centric vision to develop solutions that deliver additional value, increase productivity and enhance safety for Cat® equipment customers in Western and Eastern Siberia, Yakutia and the Northern part of Russian Far East has led to Vostochnaya Technica investing in Immersive Technologies’ simulators for operator training.

“Technology driven training is new to Russia. With a shared focus to deliver quantifiable results to mining customers Immersive Technologies’ understands the end goal and we are pleased to partner with them,” said Alexander Voroshilov, Technology Manager, Vostochnaya Technica.

The direction to deploy equipment simulators into Russia was led by John Bergin, Mining Director at Vostochnaya Technica and Vostochnaya Technica General Director, Quinton McGeer, as a tool to add value to Vostochnaya Technica customers.

As part of their vision to develop technological solutions that deliver additional value to their customers and address issues like productivity, safety and cost savings, Vostochnaya Technica will be adding simulation training using a transportable containerised simulator from Immersive Technologies. “Customers kept telling me that all of the ‘good’ operators are getting old, and it’s time to develop a new generation of equipment operators,” Voroshilov said, “so we looked to incorporate the latest technology into this process.”

The simulator will be traveling to customers across the Siberian region or stay at VT facilities and will be used to target key site challenges such as tyre life, fuel consumption, production improvements and safety.

“We will help customers develop standards and benchmarks for effective training and after working with the Immersive Technologies’ Simulators we are confident we can bring real in-field improvements to our customers,” Voroshilov said.

After extensive review of the simulation industry, Caterpillar entered into an exclusive license agreement with Immersive Technologies in 2004 (renewed again in 2014). Caterpillar provides Immersive Technologies with access to proprietary machine information ensuring simulators are engineered to the highest fidelity.
