Live laser scanning demos at MINExpo

Mechanical contractor and fabricator Andy J. Egan Co (Egan) will showcase construction technology advancements from its sister company, 3D Imaging Services (3DIS), through live 3D laser scanning demonstrations at the company’s MINExpo booth. Attendees will see first-hand how a quick capture of millions of 3D measurements eliminates human error and guarantees precisely fabricated components for both retrofit projects and new construction in the mining industry.

“For mining industry projects, the proper application of this technology creates significant dollar and time savings,” says Rick Atkins, Director of New Business at Egan. “We’ve seen our customers expedite job schedules, reduce their jobsite labour and identify costly errors before they were executed in the field.”

Egan’s headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan, boasts a large fabrication shop that supplies the mining industry with pipe spools, pipe racks and turnkey skid packages. Customers and projects include Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, Jacobs Engineering Group, Fagen, Kennecott Utah Copper, Kiewit, CCC Group, Brahma Group and Bilfinger Westcon.

The live demonstrations will include an overview of RetroFab, a proprietary, turnkey process that Egan and 3DIS developed for retrofit fabrication projects. RetroFab uses 3D laser measurements at key points of the process order to fabricate precisely to existing conditions, eliminating field rework and reducing outage time.
