First Majestic snares Mexican safety gong

First Majestic Silver’s La Parrilla Silver Mine has been awarded the ‘Safest Mine’ award for 2006 in the category of Underground Mines with less than 500 workers.

The award was granted by the Mexican Chamber of Mines as part of their annual review of mining operations throughout Mexico. The trophy will be given to the company during the Inauguration Ceremony of the XXVII International Mining Convention on October 10, 2007, in Veracruz, Mexico.

First Majestic was “very pleased” with this recognition from industry leaders in Mexico. The company said it took its responsibilities at each of its three operating silver mines in Mexico very seriously.

“In addition to the high levels of safety management strives to achieve; the company has also launched several social programs in the communities it operates in. These social programs include; scholarships for local students, development of alternate sources of income for the community, such as; manufacturing of work clothes; providing water and support to the local primary and secondary schools; participating in local social activities, giving priority to the local labour for permanent jobs and creating other contracting business giving privilege to the local people to benefit from our operations,” First Majestic said.
