Bucyrus strengthens in China’s underground market

Bucyrus China has become a much bigger operation since May 2007, following the Bucyrus acquisition of DBT. Clearly the company sees great potential for China. Just three weeks after the acquisition, the approvals were signed for Langfang Phase III expansion which doubles the size of the existing Bucyrus facilities there. More importantly, the company says, “it represents a major step forward to developing more competitive products in China.”

On June 8, 2007, the ground breaking ceremony for the Langfang Phase III expansion project was held. The new factory will enable Langfang to manufacture AFC systems, feeder breakers, roof bolters, battery coal haulers and scoops. “This will make these leading edge products more competitive as well as reducing lead times and improving aftermarket support”, says Paul Bracher, Vice President and Managing Director of Bucyrus China Region. To further enhance the customer service capability, one bay will be used to overhaul & repair equipment as well as offering rebuild of cylinders. The construction of Langfang phase III is due to be completed early this year.
