ABB is to supply complete mine hoist system to LKAB in northern Sweden. This new system will bring iron ore from the new main haulage level M1250 (1,250 m) and boost productivity. All this is part of an expansion to increase overall output and productivity. ABB’s delivery includes both mechanical and electrical equipment, such as pulley and shaft, brake system, skips, measuring pockets, System 800xA control system, motor, drive system ACS 6000 SD, installation as well as commissioning. ABB has had long term cooperation with LKAB. “We are proud of being chosen by LKAB, the biggest iron ore supplier in Europe, thanks to a good working relationship between ABB and LKAB over the years”, says Leif Andersson, head of the Centre of Excellence for Underground Mining within ABB Business Unit Minerals. “It is of vital importance to provide our customers with solutions to help them reach their increased production volume targets.”
The equipment for the new mine hoist will be delivered by the end of 2009 and the hoist is planned to be in production during the middle of 2010.
