Cameco, one of the world’s largest uranium producers headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has reported a modest increase in water inflow to a development area of the McArthur River uranium mine. The company reported that production areas of McArthur were unaffected.
Tim Gitzel, Cameco’s Chief Operating Officer said: “The inflow is only about 10% of our total capacity to pump water out of the mine. We have prepared for such events and it is being well managed.” The company has reported that there were no injuries and that the mine is safe, additionally the environment around the mine was not impacted.
The McArthur River mine is located in Saskatchewan and is the world’s largest, high-grade uranium deposit with Proven and Probable reserves of 349.1 MIbs U3O8 with an average ore grade of 20.7% U3O8.
