Update on the eighth World Copper conference

Andres Velasco, the Chilean Minister of Finance, will inaugurate the second day of the eighth World Copper conference. The event will take place at the Grand Hyatt in Santiago, Chile, between 31 March and 2 April 2009. The conference, organised by the analysis and consultancy group CRU and co-sponsored by mining company Anglo American, has a program focused on the impact of the economic crisis on the copper industry – helping companies to understand the strategies that need to be put in place to ensure their survival.

Keynote presentations now confirmed include:

  • Santiago Gonzalez, Minister of Mines
  • Jose Pablo Arellano, President & CEO, Codelco – Chile
  • Diego Hernández, President, BHP Billiton
  • Robert Friedland, Executive Chairman, Ivanhoe Mines
  • Andres Velasco, Minister of Finance

  • Hans Timmer, Manager, Development Prospects Group, World Bank.
