Pieter Du Plessis takes the reins at Bateman Engineering Projects

Pieter Du Plessis has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the global Bateman Engineering Projects strategic business unit of Bateman Engineering. He is an Executive Director of Bateman Engineering N.V. Du Plessis was previously CFO of Bateman Engineering and has been with the Bateman Engineering Group for 18 years, during which time he has held key operational, financial and commercial positions. He has a thorough understanding of the dynamics of the Group and the project engineering and construction industry, having successfully project managed some of the Group’s largest and most prestigious projects. He holds BSc (Eng) Chem. (Hons) degrees from the University of Pretoria and is a registered professional engineer, both in South Africa and Europe.

Bateman Engineering Projects provides process technology solutions for the recovery of minerals and metals, with a comprehensive suite of services ranging from feasibility studies through to the engineering, execution and management of projects using various contracting models including EPCM and LSTK (lump-sum turnkey projects). Bateman Engineering Projects provides its services through a number of geographically-focused business units including Sub-Saharan Africa, Australia & South-East Asia, CIS and India. Projects are undertaken globally across all commodities with recently completed projects including the engineering and construction of a 20 Mt/y copper concentrator for the Lumwana project in Zambia, the upgrading of South Africa’s Sishen Iron Ore production by 13 Mt/y and the process design and project execution of a 1,200 t/y uranium plant at Uranium One’s Dominion Reefs project in South Africa.

Philippe Monier has been appointed Chief Financial Officer (designate) of Bateman Engineering, bringing with him a strong international financial background and experience in the mining and engineering sector. Most recently he was the Chief Financial Officer of Green Gas International, a medium sized private equity backed company involved in the conversion of methane emissions from coal mines and landfill sites into clean energy and carbon credits. He has previously held the positions of Chief Financial Officer of mining company Dynatec Corporation of Canada; Chief Financial Officer of the world’s third largest copper producer, BHP Billiton Base Metals, a division of BHP Billiton; as well as working for nine years as an investment banker with Lehman Brothers’ natural resources corporate finance group. Philippe has a Bachelors degree in Economics, as well as an MBA from the London Business School.
