Outotec and Kemira enter strategic co-operation in developing solutions for water-intensive industrial applications

Posted on 6 Sep 2010

Outotec and Kemira have signed a strategic co-operation agreement to develop, promote and support the companies’ businesses in minerals and oil sands processing as well as associated industrial water treatment solutions. Kemira offers a large selection of chemicals and process solutions for mining. Outotec is a global leader in minerals and metals processing technology. This co-operation combines Outotec’s competence in minerals and oil sands processing technology with Kemira’s know-how in water chemistry and related applications to offer customers process optimisation enabling cost-efficiency, sustainability and quality improvements.

The Outotec and Kemira co-operation uses the research programs of SWEET, the Center of Water Efficiency Excellence, which Kemira established together with Technical Research Centre of Finland in March, 2010. The SWEET research programs aim to develop unique water knowledge and new technology to enhance water usage and recycling in water-intensive industries and thus to create new business opportunities for companies in the environmental technology sector.

“The strategic co-operation with Kemira will strengthen our water-related businesses and enable us to offer new value-adding technologies and services to our customers. We have expertise in water treatment of minerals processing and metallurgical plants, and our aim is to further expand our offerings to new industrial water treatment applications. This is a great opportunity for Outotec to create new revenue stream”, says Pertti Korhonen, President and CEO of Outotec.

“The strategic co-operation with Outotec is strongly supporting our target to grow and to expand geographical presence within mining applications and oil sands processing related industries. The jointly crafted business model is backing up the co-operation which we believe will benefit both companies as well as customer organizations across the industry”, says Harri Kerminen, President and CEO of Kemira.
