haypoint_2.jpegBHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) will expand the Hay Point coal terminal in central Queensland, Australia to accommodate the throughput required to support new mine projects. Aurecon Hatch will provide engineering services for the HPX3 terminal expansion project, which will increase output capacity to 55 Mt/y of coal.

The design scope includes:

  • New 2-km trestle
  • Two new outloading conveyor streams
  • Two new surge bins on a 10.2-ha reclamation that will replace existing infrastructure
  • New third berth and dredging works
  • New shiploader
  • Associated yard and berth tie-in components to transfer coal from the stockpiles to the shiploaders.

The Hatch team will also support BMA with documentation and approvals for the HPX3 project.

In earlier assignments, Aurecon Hatch provided EPCM services for Hay Point coal terminal expansions HPX1 and HPX2, which increased capacity from 34 to 44 Mt/y.
