Promoting excellence in mining and mineral processing project management

Posted on 20 Dec 2010

Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) to collaborate to promote excellence in project management. In particular, the two organisations will work together on refining SKM’s internal project management development programs and aligning its internal accreditation process with the AIPM Registered Project Manager (RegPM) accreditation.

SKM’s internal project management development program incorporates competency-based assessment at regular intervals, and with the assistance of AIPM, SKM is looking to ensure effective development opportunities are provided for its project managers and directors so that they are capable of meeting the established AIPM certification levels. Ongoing internal promotion of project management skills development and the benefits of recognised accreditation will be a key part of this.

“Best practice project management is an essential component of SKM’s continued success, and we welcome this opportunity to strengthen the efficacy of our internal development programs,” said Paul Dougas, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, SKM. “SKM has been a corporate member for some time and through this new agreement we’re delighted to be able to strengthen our commitment to develop and promote excellence in project management.”

Commenting on the MoU, Dr Bill Young, National President, AIPM, said, “Partnerships with leading organisations like SKM play a critical role in advancing the profession of Project Management. In strengthening our relationship with SKM I’m very confident we will enhance the career path framework for SKM’s project managers and provide access to continuous professional development at an internationally recognised standard.”
