Cummins will present one of the largest displays of Tier 4 Interim engines, exhaust after-treatment and filtration products at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2011. The exhibit will feature a full lineup of the latest generation 3.3-litre to 15-litre engines, ranging from 45 to 447 kW. Also on show will be the highly innovative VGTTM variable geometry turbocharger patented by Cummins Turbo Technologies.
Cummins says its “Tier 4 Interim engines are delivering significantly higher fuel economy and improved engine response than their successful Tier 3 predecessors. This combination of higher performance and cleaner, low-emissions operation will be represented with a Tier 4 “Clear Advantage” message for visitors to the Cummins booth.”
Cummins six-cylinder QSB6.7, QSL9, QSX11.9 and QSX15 engines on display meet EPA Tier 4 Interim/EU Stage IIIB regulations for above 129 kW introduced January 1, 2011. They are integrated with the Cummins Particulate Filter aftertreatment system to remove Particulate Matter (PM) emissions by operating with up to 99% passive regeneration in most applications, with no impact on equipment performance.
For the January1, 2012, Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB emissions regulations covering the 56-129 kW category, the four-cylinder QSB3.3, QSB4.5 and lower ratings of the QSB6.7 use the Cummins Compact Catalyst to remove PM. The catalyst is a fully passive, exhaust flow-through after-treatment with a service-free “fit-and-forget” advantage for smaller equipment typically used in rental fleet applications.
A cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system features on all Cummins Tier 4 Interim engines above 55-kW. EGR efficiently reduce NOx emissions by lowering the combustion temperature.
Completing the Cummins engine lineup at the show is the B3.3, certified for current Tier 4 Interim emissions across a 45-55 kW range, without the need for aftertreatment, EGR or electronic controls to offer a cost-effective power solution.
Cummins says “the ability to utilise key enabling technologies from within Cummins own resources has been a major factor in realizing a Clear Advantage for Tier 4, resulting in better integrated packaging and enhanced performance.
“A complete suite of exhaust after-treatment systems from Cummins Emission Solutions will make an impressive display on the booth. Cummins Filtration will show an extensive range of engine filtration products, including the latest Direct FlowTM air cleaner, introduced for Tier 4 Interim.
Other notable features at the Cummins booth include Tier 4 Interim installation-ready power units supplied by Cummins Power Products. Cummins Power Generation will present a compact trailer unit with 100-kW output.
