The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has appointed of Pierre Gratton as incoming President and CEO, replacing Gordon Peeling, who is retiring after over 13 years at the head of the national mining group. Gratton joins MAC after serving as President and CEO of the Mining Association of BC (MABC) since 2008.
“MAC welcomes Pierre Gratton’s return to the association after three years leading the MABC through the turbulence of the 2008 economic crisis through to what has been termed the “BC mining renaissance,” said Doug Horswill, MAC’s Chairman and Senior Vice President Sustainability and External Affairs for Teck Resources.

“He brings a depth and breadth of experience to MAC at a time when Canada’s mining industry is facing significant growth opportunities, record commodity prices, and at the same time rising public expectations of the industry’s economic, social and environmental performance.”

Prior to his role at MABC, Gratton was MAC’s Vice President, Sustainability and Public Affairs from 1999-2008, playing a pivotal role in the development of the award-winning sustainability initiative, Towards Sustainable Mining. During this time, he served as a member of the federal Advisory Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility in the Extractive Sector. He also brings federal government and consulting experience to the association.

“We will miss Pierre and the leadership he has provided MABC. We are better off for his having been in BC and congratulate him on his move to the national stage,” added John McManus, Chairman of MABC and Senior Vice President, Operations at Taseko Mines. “We will continue to work with him in his new role and with the very competent staff that he leaves behind at MABC.”
