Multotec spirals popular in global mining industry for gravity concentration

125px_tn24124502221.jpgMultotec’s spirals division has reported a growth of more than 70% compared to the previous financial year, an achievement that the company’s Renira Reddy attributes primarily to customer service and technical support. Reddy, Product Manager – gravity concentration, says the market has recognised the many advantages the spiral concentrator process offers over other mineral separation processes. “In addition to this, Multotec spirals do not need to be “run in” and do not have any moving parts,” she says. “And chemical reagents are not required to operate the equipment.”Development of the Multotec spiral range has been ongoing for several years, starting out with a basic coal spiral which led to the development of the 1 m diameter high capacity coal spiral. This equipment features an auto-reject channel that overcomes the problem of beaching owing to oversize particles in the feed, while offering improved removal of high density particles.

“Our technical ability has played a key role in the growth we have experienced, as we seek to establish technical partnerships with our customers to develop optimum solutions for particular applications,” she says. “We have followed through on our commitment to provide customers with a rapid and highly accurate response to information requests. Another success factor has been ongoing research and development, specifically focused on the iron ore and mineral sands sectors. The objective is to develop and improve existing spirals for mineral processes in these sectors – and to develop new products to suit emerging client applications. We are also optimising our manufacturing processes to increase throughput and product quality.”

Multotec offers a local spiral testing facility to industry, which allows the company to demonstrate the effectiveness of its spiral range. The spirals used in testing are dimensionally equivalent to those that would be used on a typical site. Clients play an active role in the testing protocol and samples are tested at an independent laboratory to ensure an unbiased result.

Multotec has extensive manufacturing capability in South Africa and the entire organisation is ISO 9001:2008 certified. Multotec is represented globally through various offices, agents and subsidiaries and is represented all six continents.
