MDL (Measurement Devices Australia) will introduce a new laser cavity scanner for remotely surveying inaccessible voids and cavities on Stand H1165 during AIMEX, September 6-9. The Cavity-Auto scanning Laser System (C-ALS) Mk3 is a robotic laser system with a diameter of just 50 mm, enabling it to be deployed through pre-drilled boreholes of 65 mm or more for 360o coverage. The system can operate down hole to a depth of 300 m and up hole or horizontally to a distance of 100 m.It is designed for use in ore pass erosion monitoring, stope surveying, void investigation, tunnel surveys, subsidence investigations, abandoned mine inspection and mine rescue operations.
The C-ALS Mk3 conforms to the IP67 (water and dust proof) environments standard and, according to the manager of MDL’s Australian operations, Julia Reynolds, will complete an average 10 scan in 15 to 20 minutes while its robust motor has the capacity to operate 24/7. “Measurement absolute accuracy is 5 cm and repeatability/resolution is 1 cm,” Reynolds said. “Maximum range is 150m. Scan rate is up to 650,000 readings per hour and 240 readings per second.”
MDL’s CavityScan software enables the system to be controlled remotely from a surface control unit using a laptop computer, with scans viewed in real-time. The software also processes the data for editing, viewing and export in numerous formats to various third party modeling and CAD packages like Sarpac or Vulcan. More than 100 C-ALS were operating worldwide, including 24 in Australia and New Zealand, Reynolds said.
