ppl_image_04.jpgHindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company, is host the 12th International Conference on Mineral Processing Technology at Udaipur October 20-22 . The conference will focus on various mineral processing issues and initiatives to promote more efficient extraction of metals from mineral resources as well as better waste management. The theme for this year’s event is “Recent Advances in Processing of Non-Ferrous and Industrial Minerals”. The three-day conference, which is expected to attract over 500 delegates from India and abroad, has already received close to 230 research papers and will include about 200 presentations, Hindustan Zinc stated in a press release.

Since the year 2000, the Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers (IIME) has been organising this event at different locations in association with the wider mineral industry in India. Last year the event was held in Jamshedpur. This year Hindustan Zinc, the world’s largest integrated producer of zinc, which also controls over 85% of the Indian zinc market, opted to host the conference. Hindustan Zinc established a most modern Central Research & Development Laboratory (CRDL) back in 1976 with the objective of enhancing metal recoveries, including recovering additional metal from waste and optimising waste management. The CRDL has developed various processes that include new processes to recover lead and silver from low grade lead concentrates and hot gas precipitator dust. Hindustan Zinc’s CRDL has been recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and it is listed in the American Society for Testing and Materials online directory for testing laboratories.
