tharisa.jpgMDM Engineering Group has signed the contract for the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) of Tharisa Minerals’ chromite and platinum expansion project in South Africa, near Marikana. The EPC contract has been awarded on a fast track basis and the project is expected to be commissioned in August of 2012. At steady state, the Tharisa expansion project will process some 3.6 Mt/y of ROM ore.

George Bennett, MDM Executive Director said: “This is a significant step forward in the expansion of the Tharisa project. MDM look forward to developing a strong working relationship with Tharisa Minerals and developing more projects with them in the future. MDM started the execution project in May 2011, which is on schedule and progress to date is some 40% complete.  It is the third Platinum project that MDM has been involved in over the last three years and confirms MDM expertise in this area.”
