altrachina.jpgAltra Industrial Motion recently held a ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the construction of a new 90,000 ft2 manufacturing facility in Changzhou, near Shanghai. The new plant, Altra’s second manufacturing facility in China, will be home to Altra Industrial Motion Changzhou (AIMC).

The company said the new facility will enable Altra Couplings to better serve the Chinese market by providing shorter lead times and enhanced technical support. Initially, coupling production at the new facility will be focused on products for the Chinese metals production, oil and gas, wind power and power generation markets. “Altra has been active in the Chinese market for more than 20 years,” said Mark Klossner, Vice President and General Manager of Altra Couplings and recently appointed AIMC Chairman.

He continued: “This new facility is a sign of our continued commitment to serving the large and growing Chinese market for mechanical power transmission products.” Altra products applicable to mining include hydraulic brakes, which provide added safety on all types of mining vehicles including shuttle cars, loaders, and haulers. High performance couplings and torque limiters are also found on pumps and compressors throughout mine facilities. Heavy-duty grinding mill clutches with high heat dissipation are also supplied to provide quick, smooth starts of large inertia loads. Caliper brakes and couplings are also utilised.
