Monadelphous Group has been awarded a contract valued at approximately A$100 million to construct the coal handling plant for BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) Caval Ridge mine project, southeast of Moranbah in Queensland. The contract is for the provision of civil, structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical and instrumentation works for the coal handling plant. Work will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2013.
The 5.5 Mt/y dragline and truck mine is located in the northern section of the Bowen Basin, southeast of Moranbah. The project includes a new coal mine and a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP). The new CHPP will also process an additional 2.5 Mt/y of product coal from the expansion of the neighbouring Peak Downs mine, which will be transported via conveyor. So its total CHPP throughput will be 8 Mt/y of high quality, hard coking coal.
