suncor-weir.JPGWeir Minerals Canada (WMC) has completed the largest single order in its history. In early 2010, WMC won an order to supply three Multiflo mega-barges for Suncor’s TRO Project, located 30 km North of Fort McMurray, Alberta. Spring 2012 saw WMC and its team of contractors completed project construction prior to the hand-over to its customer for commissioning. The system is now fully operational. Weir Minerals Multiflo reclaim water barges are an integral part of tailings management solutions in oil sands applications.

The Weir Minerals mega-barge project is a culmination of months of effort on the part of several key groups within Weir Minerals Canada. A cross-functional team of people from sales, product management and engineering led by the design center team in Mississauga, Ontario, with support from the sales teams in Calgary, Alberta, and Hazleton, Pennsylvania. The project kicked off in the spring of 2010 with the contract to design, fabricate, assemble and launch the three reclaim water barges.

The complete turnkey project which includes design, fabrication, on-site construction, launch and supply of all equipment including Hazleton pumps from Weir Minerals, barges, mechanical, electrical, process control and marine design represents a multi-million dollar endeavour for Weir Minerals. The company said it illustrates a  “successful effort in exploring adjacent market opportunities and moving up the value chain; taking the company beyond traditional supplier of pumps, to being a systems integrator and premier mining equipment solutions provider.”
