On April 2, OCP Group, whose history is closely linked with that of the port, joined the Casablanca Port Promotion Association in celebrating the centenary of the port of Casablanca. As a major operator in the economic and social development of modern Morocco, OCP took the opportunity to tell through its own evolution, this centenary, also using this occasion to pay tribute to the Moroccan women and men who have been striving for many years for the success of the port. OCP is the world’s largest exporter of phosphate rock and phosphoric acid, and one of the world’s largest fertiliser producers.
OCP notes that “founded in 1913, the port of Casablanca is considered a figurehead of the country’s maritime activity. Given its geographical location, the port has always played a crucial role in OCP’s activity as a first and most important gateway to the whole world, since its first phosphate shipment.” Today phosphates represent about one quarter of Moroccan exports. “Besides, the effective contribution of OCP in the development of the port activity must also be highlighted since OCP runs the phosphates terminal, whose capacity is currently estimated at 18 Mt.”
As a global leader in the market for phosphate and its derivatives, OCP has been a key player in the international market since its founding in 1920. Present across the value chain, OCP extracts, markets and sells phosphate and its derivatives, phosphoric acid and fertilisers.
OCP is involved in all aspects of value-creation in the phosphate industry: extraction and ore processing, transforming the raw material into an intermediate liquid, phosphoric acid, and producing finished products by condensing and granulating the acid or by purifying it to make fertilizers and purified phosphoric acid.
The variety and quality of phosphate sources found in Morocco are among the best in the world and ensure the richness of the products. OCP’s business strategy is based on developing a portfolio of innovative and quality products that can be adapted to diverse soil and plant varieties. OCP’s large industrial capacity, coupled with its flexible production system, ensure an optimal cost structure.
