Spectro release new portable SPECTROSCOUT XRF analyser

Posted on 1 May 2013

Spectro Analytical UK launched the SPECTROSCOUT Portable Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (ED-XRF) Analyser in March 2013 which is aimed to enable rapid, laboratory-class elemental analysis of environmental and geological samples in remote locations. Dirk Wissmann, Product Manager for XRF Instruments at Spectro said “Weighing only 12 kg and carried with a shoulder strap, the new SPECTROSCOUT portable ED-XRF analyser meets such challenges in the field with as much analytical power as top-grade laboratory benchtop analysers. Its precision and speed in the field allow for faster decisions and improved productivity. Many laboratory based measurements now become unnecessary.”

The portable analyser has been designed for onsite environmental and geological analysis and intended for tough use by incorporating a rugged encasement and protected X-ray source. It is 12 kg and is 270 x 306 x 306 mm and includes a large sample compartment, X-ray tube, onboard processor, and high-yield battery pack as well as an optional integrated video system which allows precise spot testing and image storage.

The SPECTROSCOUT can provide measurements from trace to minor and major concentrations across a range of relevant elements from heavy elements, such as uranium, to light elements, such as sodium with a turnaround typically ten to fifteen minutes.
