Swick Mining Services has been awarded a grade control drilling contract at the Grasberg gold and copper mine situated in the Indonesian province of Papua and is the world’s largest gold producer and third largest copper producer. The Grasberg mine is undergoing the transition from being one of the world’s largest open pit mines to becoming one of the world’s largest underground operations. Swick has been awarded an initial two rig, 12 month, grade control drilling contract and will also be able to test the wider applications of its mobile diamond drilling technology at the site. Mobilisation is expected to commence early in the first quarter of the 2013 financial year, with drilling commencing in the latter part of that quarter.

Kent Swick, Managing Director of Swick said “Swick is very proud to be assoiciated with the Freeport Grasberg mine. It’s a world class operation and we are confident we can add significant value with our productive, highly mobile and reliable underground diamond drilling services. Swick understands that there is significant long term potential for the Company, well beyond the initial terms, as well as potential to significantly increase rig numbers over time as demand grows.”
