Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has won the Professional Services category for Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Supplier Recognition Programme Awards 2012, highlighting the work that the projects firm is currently delivering for the global mining company’s iron ore business. SKM’s Manager Engineering, Steve Russell, who accepted the Award at a gala event held in Perth earlier this year, said SKM was assessed against other Professional Services suppliers and industry best practice in order to achieve the sought-after accolade.
“We are delighted to take part in the Supplier Recognition Programme Awards held by one of our major mining clients and honoured to have won this prestigious Award in a highly competitive category. This is deserved recognition for our entire team for the professional and dedicated service that we have provided to our client, Rio Tinto, in the delivery of many successful and landmark projects over a long period of time. Notably, this year also marks the 50th year of SKM supporting Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore business”, Russell said.
The Awards aim to improve the total supply chain and recognise excellence in supplier performance across Rio Tinto’s Western Australian Iron Ore business. Assessment of SKM’s services by Rio Tinto was provided based on performance data reviewed throughout the year from internal feedback, contract key performance data, contractor management system and supplier reporting.
SKM is currently engaged to carry out the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services for Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert Port B Project – one of the largest resource projects ever undertaken in Australia, involving the development of a new iron ore port facility
