Almex to unveil new OTR tyre repair and conveyor belt inspection systems at AIMEX

Shaw Almex Industries will unveil a new off-the-road tyre repair vulcanisers and a new conveyor belt inspection system at AIMEX 2013, held at Sydney Showground from August 20-23. The new Almex OTR systems are designed to repair haulage and loader tyres that were previously considered un-repairable. Tim Shaw, President and CEO of Shaw Almex Industries said “The vulcanisers feature extremely large engineered frames and large hydraulic cylinders which apply higher pressures and airbag systems, resulting in significantly stronge, longer lasting repairs that offer the same integrity, safety and durability of new manufactured tyres.”

Shaw said the OTR machines used aluminium molds to ensure a strong, quality repair on any area of a tyre, including the sidewall, tread, shoulder and bead – with the vulcanisation cycle fully automated. He also commented on the fact that there is a worldwide shortage of new tyres. “Equipment owners and service companies are looking for ways to salvage capital and hours out of haulage and loader tyres at mine, quarry and industrial sites and these new machines will help save time and money.”

Almex will also promote its new BeltGuard steel cord conveyor belt inspection system at AIMEX. “BeltGuard gives mine operators real-time inspections of steel cable belts and provides immediate alerts of any cord breaks, cable corrosion or splice defects,” Shaw said. Reports can be monitored on-site or sent remotely electronically. The permanently mounted system was characterised by a unique design that did not require a conveyor belt to be magnetised for scanning, therefore simplifying and economising the scanning process, he said.

Service providers can use a portable version to offer mine operators one-time scans to help determine remaining belt life. BeltGuard is currently offered in a modular configuration, including a scanner head, processor unit, and a display or monitor. Future models will be designed to include pulley bearing monitoring, conveyor drive vibration monitoring, rip prevention and detection, and crusher system protection
