LiuGong unveils its largest excavator, 970E, at BICES 2013

Posted on 17 Oct 2013

LiuGong Machinery will unveil its largest excavator to date, the 970E, at this year’s BICES trade show. The 970E hydraulic excavator was a completely new development project in line with LiuGong’s overall plan of excavator products and in accordance with market demands, ideally suited to large-scale quarrying and mining operations. Built with latest component technologies and many advanced processes and developed with LiuGong’s product development process (LDP) and PLM tools, the 970E delivers a customer focused, high quality 70-t excavator, the company says.

“Advanced engineering tools, such as non-linear and linear finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and dynamic simulation models were used to develop the 970E into an optimised, integrated design, all of which leads to increased reliability. The 970E features world-class components and Cummins QSX15 engine and the latest Kawasaki hydraulic components to maximise efficiency.  [It] features LiuGong’s new-generation electronic controller which is specially optimised for 970E to ensure the engine and hydraulics are matched exactly to the application for lowest fuel consumption. LiuGong used finite element analysis technology and dynamic simulations to carry out fatigue analysis to all major structural parts of 970E including operating device, slewing platform, moving frame and bucket. Analysis results were then verified in the test field using strain gage technology to ensure high durability. In addition, the 970E features centralised lubrication which extends its lifecycle. Its diesel particulate filter and air cleaner are well placed for easy access.”

The 970E extended LiuGong’s product line and demonstrates its technical capability in designing and manufacturing large-tonnage machines. Along with other large-tonnage products like the  888 and 899 wheel loaders, the Dressta TD40E bulldozer and large mining dump trucks, LiuGong can now provide a comprehensive solution to mining customers.

LiuGong is showing four wheel loaders at the show. The Dressta TD-40E dozers uses a Cummins QSK19 engine which meets EU Stage IIIA and EPA Tier 3 emissions standard. The new level of combustion efficiency enables NO2 emissions to be reduced by almost 40% to meet required standards. The machine can be operated under any extreme conditions.

The SGA240 haul truck uses the latest AC IGBT drive system technology provided by Beijing SuLi Technology. It provides superior performance with higher top speeds, better gradeability and stronger retardation. The inverter modules provide better braking. These advantages result in more productivity and lower costs per tonne.
