ABB has recently secured a three-year contract for remote diagnostic services to maintain and support an ABB gearless mill drive (GMD) system installed Newmont Mining’s Minera Yanacocha, South America’s largest gold producer. The mine is located high in the Andes mountains of Peru, near the town Cajamarca. The remote diagnostic service (RDS) aims to improve equipment reliability and performance. Since the mine opened in 1993, total output has exceeded 26 Moz. Reliable and well-performing equipment is essential. ABB’s state-of-the-art service solutions meet these requirements. The RDS contract for the GMD system, commissioned in 2008, covers ABB SupportLine, troubleshooting and periodic maintenance reports.
In case of an unexpected shutdown the remote diagnostic services will enable ABB service teams from anywhere in the world to quickly provide support via a secure remote connection. With these services ABB will help keep the system running smoothly at all times and maximise overall productive life. The periodic maintenance report helps to prevent any potential equipment issue well before production problems occur. With the early detection of possible operational issues the report complements scheduled service activities prior to a planned GMD system shutdown. Two ABB teams, in Peru and Switzerland, will be in charge of this service contract.
“This remote diagnostic service contract proves our customer’s confidence in ABB as a reliable service partner and the successful and long-standing cooperation between ABB and Minera Yanacocha,” commented Remy Lanoue, Global Service Manager for Mining.
