New PEA and execution contracts for MDM in DRC and Mexico

Posted on 5 Dec 2013

MDM Engineering, the minerals process and project management company focused on the mining industry, has been awarded two new contracts – first the preliminary economic assessment (PEA) for Casa Mining’s Misisi gold project in the DRC and second the execution contract for GoGold Resources’ Parral tailings project in Chihuahua, Mexico.

The Misisi project is located in the east of the DRC, 152 km southeast of Banro’s Namoya project. Casa has been exploring the project area where artisanal miners have been recovering gold for approximately 35 years. As of July 2013, over 14,000 m had been drilled. Metallurgical testwork has provided favourable results for both gravity and leach recovery. Casa requested that MDM comment on the testwork results achieved to date and on the proposed PFS test programme with particular reference to the experience gained at the Namoya mine currently being constructed by MDM. Namoya is located in the eastern DRC near the Misisi project site. In parallel with this, further metallurgical testwork will take place to assess potential recovery of the gold. Subject to the results, this will lead through to a feasibility study.

Kevin Stock, MDM’s General Manager of Proposals said: “MDM has an excellent track record in the DRC and is in a good position to put to use its in-country expertise alongside its team’s extensive gold knowledge for the Misisi gold project’s PEA. MDM looks forward to working with Casa Mining in what we believe will be a long and successful relationship from its PEA through to execution.”

The Parral project comprises dry land tailings deposited from the historical Mina la Prieta silver and base metals mine. The tailings were deposited in two separate areas referred to as Zones 1 and 2. The project is held by GoGold’s wholly owned Mexican subsidiary, Grupo Coanzamex. GoGold, a Canadian exploration company, recently acquired the Parral tailings project from Absolute Gold in August of this year. George Bennett, MDM Executive Director said: “MDM is very pleased to have been awarded the execution phase of work for the Parral tailings project following the completion of the FEED in June 2013. The MDM team have extensive tailings experience, which includes some of the largest tailings projects in the world. It is therefore our belief that we will add great value to the Parral tailings project.”
