Cengiz Group orders SX and smelter technology from Outotec

Posted on 31 Dec 2013

Outotec is to deliver technology and services worth over €100 million to Cengiz Group for the Mazidagi and Samsun operations in Turkey. The orders include a roasting plant for pyrite concentrates, calcine leaching and solvent extraction plants, copper smelter modernisation, as well as gas cleaning and sulphuric acid plants. Cengiz Group, a major Turkish aluminium and copper producer, is planning to expand production capacity, lengthen the lifetime of their mines and improve the environmental and safety performance of the operations.

Outotec’s scope of delivery includes technologies, engineering, proprietary equipment, process control system, as well as advisory services for installation, commissioning and start-up of the plants. The solutions chosen by the customer employ market leading Outotec technologies, such as fluidised bed based roasting, flash smelting, autoclave leaching and sulphuric acid plants, and they include the latest innovations such as advanced HEROS heat recovery system as well as the new modular VSFX solvent extraction plant concept developed by Outotec and launched in December 2013. The deliveries will take place from late 2014 until 2016.

“We are pleased to deliver our latest technologies to Cengiz Group for upgrading their operations. With the modernization, the Samsun smelter will double its capacity with significantly reduced emissions. I am very excited about the delivery of our new revolutionary VSFX solvent extraction plant. Its novel concept based on prefabricated modules brings a paradigm shift to design, manufacturing, logistics, installation, operations and maintenance of a solvent extraction plant as it shortens the overall project time schedule, reduces the on-site implementation risks and costs and enables continuous plant operation even during maintenance. The plant is particularly environmentally safe as it is isolated from the soil and the modules can be recycled to a next installation after the end of life of the mine. The solution significantly reduces customer’s total cost of ownership over the lifetime, enables highly efficient operations and flexible capacity expansion, and meets the strictest environmental and safety standards,” said Outotec’s CEO Pertti Korhonen.
